School Tour
Our tour begins at our main entrance on 16th Street. It is through these doors that all Xavier men pass from their first day as a freshman to their last day as a senior. These doors open up to a world of information, discovery, and growth. Inside we are blessed with a proud tradition, a faith in the present, and a hope for the future. Come with us and explore what Xavier High School has to offer.

This is the Student Chapel, located just off of the administration corridor. This chapel is used when smaller groups celebrate the Eucharist. When the entire student body gathers for mass, they assemble in the Church of St. Francis Xavier, located right next to the school.

The newly renovated Library is a place for quiet reading and study. In addition to the roughly 14,000 volumes in Xavier's library, students have access to books throughout the New York City Library System through inter-library loans. Xavier has a tradition of being on the cusp of technological innovation. We were the first Catholic high school in the metro area to have an on-line catalogue, and have access to some of the most expansive online academic databases, which are tremendous assets for our students when they have to write research papers and present their findings in presentations and projects.
Our state-of-the-art computer center features 100 computers with Microsoft XP Pro which access the World Wide Web with a T-1 connection. This allows for fast and easy downloading. In addition every student is given his own personal account on the school's network system which allows him to surf the web and send e-mail messages all over the world.

The Commons, our second gym, is a recreational area for our students. They use this facility during their lunch periods and after school to play basketball, games and other sports. Our wrestling matches also take place here. In the upper left of the photo there is an example of student art which is seen throughout the halls of Xavier.

The fourth floor of the D building, one of the four buildings making up Xavier's campus, is one of the most recently renovated floors. Here you can find four new classrooms and the math teachers' office. 86% of our classroom are "Smart" classrooms, meaning that they are connected to the Internet and are equipped with a projector and large screen. Teachers use these tools on a daily basis in their lessons, and students will have ample opportunity to show their work to their peers with this technology. Also, these newly refurnished facilities are air-conditioned. The hallways proudly display the school's colors of maroon and blue.

Another new addition is the completely remodeled band room. The new room will feature several different tiers so that each instrument can be clearly heard and every musician clearly instructed. In addition, several soundproof rooms were installed for individual practice. A new entranceway was created to allow large pieces of equipment to be moved in and out with ease.

Xavier has four science labs, including one for chemistry. Students are required to take two years of a lab science and are asked to conduct experiments as part of their curriculum.

All gym classes are held in Xavier's spacious and newly refinished Main Gym. It's here that the varsity, junior varsity and freshman basketball teams practice and play all of their games. In addition, all Xavier Dramatics productions are performed on the stage at the south end of the gym.

The newly expanded Weight Room, which is open to all students, features a variety of equipment. Students are encouraged to take full advantage of all of our facilities so that both the mind and body are allowed to grow and develop. Many of our athletic teams work out together here before or after school in the off-season.

The Quadrangle is the result of Xavier's unique architectural design. Three of the school buildings meet the main church to form a private enclosure for the enjoyment of our students. During pleasant weather, students play basketball when class is not in session.

This corridor houses all of the administrative offices. The President, Headmaster, Assistant Headmaster, Director of Alumni Relations and the College Counselors all can be found here. In addition, Mr. Hamm, the Director of Admissions, has an office on this floor.

Our tour ends with a look at the Church of St. Francis Xavier. Several times during the academic year, the entire school gathers here to celebrate the Eucharist as a community.
