Application Process for the Class of 2014:

Applying to Xavier - 8th Grade Students

Xavier attracts some of the brightest and hardest-working young men in New York. As a result, admission to Xavier is competitive. The Admissions Committee strongly considers candidates who typically score in the top quarter on the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools (TACHS), have above average grades, and wish to strive for academic excellence in a Catholic, Jesuit, college-preparatory environment.

To apply to Xavier, you must be in the 8th grade and follow these steps:

  1. Register to take the TACHS (Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools). Student handbooks can be picked up at Catholic elementary and high schools, or simply register online at www.tachsinfo.com, or by calling (866) 61TACHS. New Jersey applicants should register for the COOP exam. Register at www.coopexam.org or by calling (888) 921-COOP.  The TACHS exam dates for the Class of 2013 have passed.
  2. List Xavier as one of your three choices on your TACHS Admit Card (Our code is 110).
  3. For students attending a Catholic elementary school in the Archdiocese of New York or the Diocese of Brooklyn/Queens: Have current school principal, teacher, or counselor complete the Applicant Record form found in the TACHS registration booklet. They will send your grades to Xavier.
  4. For parents of students attending a public, private, or non-diocesan school: complete Section A of the Applicant Record before submitting it to the student’s eighth grade principal, teacher, or counselor, who will then complete the remaining three sections and send student’s grades to Xavier.
  5. Create an Applicant Profile and complete the Application for Admission, which will be available after you create your profile. The application and teacher recommendation forms are due December 1, 2009.
  6. Have a teacher of a major academic subject (English, social studies, math, science, religion, etc.) complete the Teacher Recommendation form. Please provide your teacher with a stamped envelope addressed to the Admissions Office at Xavier High School.

Applying to Xavier - Transfer Students

If you wish you transfer into Xavier as a sophomore or junior for the fall of 2010, please read the guidelines and instructions below.

Generally, a typical transfer student will have excellent grades with no grade lower than a “B” and show tremendous commitment to academic and co-curricular programs.  There is no entrance exam for transfer students. Financial aid is limited or unavailable, as the incoming 9th grade class is given preference for this; if financial hardship is a factor, contact the admissions office to acquire more information.

To apply for transfer admission and create an active file at Xavier, complete the following steps:

    1.    Complete the Application for Transfer and submit it to the Admissions Office at Xavier.

    2.   Have a parent or guardian write a one-page letter that describes the circumstances that led to the desire to transfer to Xavier.

    3.    Submit academic transcripts from the previous three academic school years (including current year).  If you are applying before the end of the school year and an official transcript is not available, send an unofficial one or the most current report card.  Request your school office or guidance counselor to mail the final transcript at the completion of the school year to Xavier.  Failure to do so will jeopardize the good standing of your application.

    4.    Submit any standardized test scores from the previous three years.  If you did not take the TACHS, COOP, ISEE, SHSAT or similar high school entrance exam, please submit scores from any other test(s) such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT, etc.

    5.    Have two teachers of major academic courses (English, math, science, history, foreign language, art, etc.), or one teacher and one counselor, complete a Letter of Recommendation on your behalf and mail them to the Admissions Office.  (Disregard the due date, 12/1, on this form).  These letters are to be completely confidential; provide your recommending teachers/counselors with a stamped envelope addressed to the Admissions Office at Xavier High School.
