Ignatian Scholars Program

The Ignatian Scholars Program is designed for intellectually gifted and academically motivated young men who want to maximize their high school learning experience.  The Ignatian Scholars pursue a rigorous course of honors study, and if they continue to excel, are invited to take the many Advanced Placement courses Xavier offers.  Most Ignatian Scholars apply to and are accepted into the National Honor Society.

An essential component of the Ignatian Scholars Program is the extracurricular enrichment.  Every month, the Scholars invite distinguished guest speakers in their field, visit one of New York City’s many cultural and artistic landmarks, or attend plays, musicals, operas, ballets, or movie screenings.  Every year, the Ignatian Scholars themselves invite guest speakers they want to hear and choose what museums and events they want to attend.

Recent graduates who began as Ignatian Scholars as freshmen have matriculated at Amherst, Boston College, Bowdoin, Cooper Union, Cornell, Georgetown, Harvard, Holy Cross, NYU, Notre Dame, Princeton, West Point, Williams, and Yale, among many other distinguished colleges and universities.  The average SAT score for Ignatian Scholars every year is nearly 1400 (out of 1600).  The students who seek out academic challenges and rise to the occasion year-in and year-out are the ones who open doors to the college or university of their choice.  They are the Ignatian Scholars.

Incoming 9th grade students who receive an academic scholarship are automatically placed in the Ignatian Scholars Program.  A few non-scholarship students with standout middle school grades are accepted into the program every year, but these are handled on a case-by-case basis.
